Bouchard's Bits & Bites
Dear friends,
The past few weeks have been a whirlwind of activity and a rollercoaster of emotions. We are now back on the west side of the "pond, "and are in the process of making the transition into the American culture. There are things we are looking forward to, being on this side of the world, and at the same time there are things we will miss about our lives in Kenya. We live with a foot in two different worlds and it is often difficult to reconcile with ourselves how we "fit in" in each context. We may take on the chameleon-like characteristics of adapting our skin color on the surface, but underneath we wrestle with our place in each culture. Our transition into this different lifestyle takes time, and we will be working through it over the next few months.
The RVA school year came to an official close last week with the graduation of the class of 2008. It was an emotional time as we said good-bye to "our kids" and sent them on their way to various parts of the world. This year was especially poignant as we were so very close to this years seniors, and Brian was such an integral part of this class. Brian was chosen by his class to give the student commencement address and was also honored as the class valedictorian. God has blessed this young man beyond our understanding and we are excited about what the Lord will do in his life and in the lives of all of the graduates from the RVA class of 2008. This year's graduation was also a difficult time due to the tragic illness of the son of a long time RVA family. Ben (RVA class 06) returned to Kijabe at the beginning of July for his younger brother's graduation, and to celebrate with his entire family. During his time in Kenya Ben became very ill with an infection that settled into his heart, and within days the infection caused a stroke and complications that ended with Ben's very unexpected and untimely death on Tuesday July 15th. As you can imagine the family is in the grips of grief, but their strength and faith in the sovereignty of God has been remarkable and inspirational. Please pray for the Entwistle family as they walk through this valley.
As we begin our Stateside trek over the next month we will be traveling by car through Colorado, Wyoming, Michigan, Ohio, and North Carolina. If possible we'd like to touch base with as many of you as possible. We now have our cells phones so if you would like to get in touch with us our numbers are Alan 307 431 9830 and Sara 307 431 9814. Our tentative schedule at this time is to be in Wyoming from the 26th of July until the 3rd-4th of August when we will head out to Ohio to see Sara's mom and then on to North Carolina to get Brian started in school, then we will return to Wyoming via Colorado.
Blessings,
Alan for all

CHARGE UP YOUR SPIRITUAL BATTERIES!
JOIN US FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL ANDWORSHIP THIS SUNDAY. “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25). “Encourage” here means to pray with, fellowship with, worship with, learn with and be with other Christians on the day God commands us to keep holy. Let’s charge up our spiritual batteries together.

In Pastor's Words
HOLD STEADY!
Ever feel like giving up in your job, your plans, your service for God, or even your marriage? Wisdom is knowing when to make a change in life. Quitting too soon can rob us of the blessing God wants to give us and give others through us. Throwing in the towel too early could jeopardize our welfare and happiness and possibly erase forever the possibility of a remarkable achievement that will never be realized. One of God’s creatures that knows this better than any other is the weaver bird of East Africa. There are 275 different kinds of weaver birds in the world and they all weave different kinds of nests. The yellow canary-like weaver of East Africa is our personal favorite. Our family would spend hours of enjoyment at Hunter’s Lodge in Kenya, just 150 miles NW of the coastal city of Mombasa, watching the amazing weaver birds create their houses. The weaver’s houses are round, about a foot in diameter, and are entered from the bottom. Although Mr. Weaver’s work looked fine to us, it was Mrs. Weaver who had to be pleased. Houses took a long time to build, yet Mr. Weaver’s work had to pass inspection or it was a “no go!” In fact, Mr. Weaver has been known to make up to twenty nests or houses before Mrs. Weaver would approve. But, when the approval came, life was blissful, a family was started and life was good. To Mrs. Weaver, a good house was well built, safe, roomy, enduring and user-friendly.
Learn this lesson from Mr. Weaver: Hold steady! Don’t give up! Be patient! The weaver bird is one of nature’s wonderful examples of a Biblical truth which, if followed, will bring us joy in our jobs, peace with our plans, satisfaction in our service for God and blessing in our marriages and families. First, let us hold steady in our WALK WITH GOD. Hebrews 12:1 encourages, “let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Second, let us hold steady in our PRAYER TO GOD. Ephesians 6:18 urges, “be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.” Third, let us hold steady in our HOPE IN GOD. Again, Hebrews 10:23 admonishes, “let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Fourth, let us hold steady in our SERVICE FOR GOD. Paul stresses in Galatians 6:9 and 10, “let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” Fifth, let us hold steady in our LOVE FOR GOD. Peter emphasizes (1 Peter 1:8 and 9), “Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” This is why we hold steady. So, the next time you feel like giving up, remember the tenacity of the weaver bird and hold steady! There’s great blessing on the other end of our perseverance through the trials, struggles, problems and challenges of life.

SUMMER SUNDAY SCHOOL
Christian education movement was founded in 1780 by Robert Raikes (1735–1811). Raikes set up a school in England to teach working children the elements of Christianity and basic literacy and arithmetic on Sundays. The idea was taken up by other denominations, and by the 19th century Sunday schools were widespread.
Today, Sunday schools continue to teach children about the Christian faith and prepare them for later commitment if they choose to take it. Stories are told and activities take place. Each Sunday, here at Zion, children have the opportunity to build their foundation on Jesus Christ and His teaching. Join us each Sunday starting at 9:15 am for fun, games, lessons, and crafts! Kids, don’t forget to bring your parents too!

In Pastor's Words
DUAL CITIZENSHIP
In a highly charged political year like this one, citizenship and the right to vote seem to be elevated to new levels of importance in these troubling times. We consider our citizenship in the United States to be one of our most valued privileges. But what does citizenship mean to you? Guaranteed voting rights? Free expression? Honor of President and flag? Possessing the American dream?
Despite the recent soaring costs of goods and services, the social and political challenges that tend to divide us, and the moral laxity that needs a 180 degree correction, we all consider it a tremendous privilege to be part of the United States. We honor those of our families, neighbors and countrymen and women who have served to defend our freedoms. They are, indeed, national treasures we appreciate and cherish. Despite our shortcomings, the prevailing opinion is that we still have one of the best systems of government on earth. We still have ten amendments to the Constitution called the “Bill of Rights” which give us citizenship rights enjoyed by no other people on earth. Originally consisting of 12 amendments, but later reduced to 10, the Bill of Rights contain basic fundamental rights and freedoms for every American citizen in the first 8, with the last 2 forbidding Congress to adopt laws which would violate these rights. The first amendment states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” The Bill of Rights, therefore, makes the boundaries of our American citizenship clear.
Christians have dual citizenship: citizenship on earth and citizenship in heaven. The writer of Hebrews emphasizes that the people of God in Old Testament times were looking beyond temporary earthly citizenship to obtain a permanent citizenship in heaven. Speaking of Abraham, the writer explains, “for he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God” (Hebrews 11:10). The writer, speaking of people of faith, further states, “they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one” (Hebrews 11:16). While we should be tireless in our efforts to make our temporary earthly home as enjoyable and beautiful as possible, we need to be prepared for a departure from here at a time of God’s own choosing. To the Christian, Jesus stresses, “I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). Paul emphasizes, “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Cor. 4:18).
Enjoy your 4th of July weekend as you contemplate the great blessings of American citizenship and our even greater blessing of knowing that “our citizenship is in heaven.” And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” (Philippians 3:20,21).
