Vaction for June
June will be on vacation from May 25th through June 1st. As we all know June does a wonderful job tending the gardens and caring for the church. While she’s gone we are asking for volunteers to help fill the gap a little. There is a short list, place in the Narthex (next to the sermon tape sign-up), of duties that need to be done. Your help is much appreciated!
COLLEGE GRADUATES TO BE RECOGNIZED
Graduation Sunday is quickly approaching and we need your help. On Sunday, May 18th recognition will be given to all our graduates. While we can easily keep track of who are high school graduates are, our college grads are a little harder to keep tabs on. So, PARENTS! If your student is graduating from college this May, please let the office know. Pastor would like to recognize their hard work! Thanks!

Honoring our Mother's
Please join us Sunday during Morning Worship to honor our mother’s. All mom’s please accept a gift courtesy of the Women’s Ministry.
The Images of Mother:
4 Year of Age: My Mommy can do anything!
8 Year of Age: My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 Year of Age: My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 Year of Age: Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 Year of Age: Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 Year of Age: That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 Year of Age: Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 Year of Age: Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 Year of Age: Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 Year of Age: Wish I could talk it over with Mom.
We Appreciate You Mom
The child was a typical four-year-old girl -- cute, inquisitive, bright as a new penny. When she expressed difficulty in grasping the concept of marriage, her father decided to pull out his wedding photo album, thinking visual images would help. One page after another, he pointed out the bride arriving at the church, the entrance, the wedding ceremony, the recessional, the reception, etc. "Now do you understand?" he asked. "I think so," she said, "is that when mommy came to work for us?"
College Cookie Thank You’s
Ladies of Zion,
Thank you so much for the awesome cookies.
They really helped me to focus on my finals.
My friends and I really enjoyed them.
Thank you again for thinking of me.

In Pastor's Words
My Child, What Can I Give You?
I should like to give you everything so that you lack for nothing, not even one single desire, but I know that for want of many things I have come to be satisfied with what I have and to think of others and their needs.
I should like to give you a life full of fun and games, but I know that because of many “chores” and responsibilities of my youth, I have learned to be responsible.
I should like to protect you from all the errors of your youth, but I know that because of my failures, I have learned to make better decisions.
I should like to give you a profession of wealth or importance, but I realize that man is truly happy only when he fulfills the purpose for which God has created him. What then, my child, can I give you that would be of any real value?
I give you my love, which means that I accept you, without reservations, just as you are and will be.
I give you my personal presence in order that you will have the security you need during your childhood.
I give you my ears, in the sense that I will never bee too busy to listen to you—sometimes never uttering even one word.
I give you opportunities to work so that you might learn to do it without shame and come to enjoy the satisfaction of work well done.
I give you my counsel only when it is necessary or you ask for it so that you might avoid some of the mistakes I have made.
I give you my consolation when you have failed or feel discouraged but I will not always protect you from the consequences of your sins.
I give you instructions in the way of the Lord so that when you are old, you will never depart from it.
I give you my daily prayers that the Lord will keep you and guide you in such a way that you, my child, will be a man or woman who will serve and glorify your Heavenly Father.
This I give you with all my love.
Your Mother, Lydia Lightner, Home Living, May 1980.
